CodeChef Twitter Contest

Hey,
CodeChef.com has some of its merchandise up for grabs. You could be one of the lucky few to get your hands on them!

CodeChef will be posting two brain teasers everyday on Twitter starting 22nd June to 25th June. If you can answer at least one puzzle, you are eligible to win a CodeChef t-shirt. At the end of each day we will randomly pick five names from all the correct entries and send them their prize.  At the end of the contest we will select one person who has answered the most puzzles correctly and send them an Amazon gift voucher worth $25 (if there is a tie, a winner will be chosen randomly).

Instructions to participate of the contest

1. Follow CodeChef on Twitter and be on the lookout for two puzzles posted daily around 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
2. Once the question is posted, you have 24 hours to submit your response.
3. All submissions should take the form @codechef *your answer* #codechef (Please include the hashtag so we can easily track the responses)
4. Answer at least one question right and you’ll be eligible for a free t-shirt. If you crack both the questions you’ll double your chances for that day.
5. We will declare the winners around 8:00 PM everyday.
6. The winner of the Amazon gift voucher would be declared at the end of the five days (26th of June 09 around 9:00 PM).
7. You can attempt as many questions as you like, multiple times. The more questions you answer correctly, the better your chances will be to win.

    If the answer is replied to your directly using @codechef, it will be visible to all!
    There is way out of this. Why not ask people to send a DM (direct message) in twitter?

    Actually only people who are following both you and CodeChef will see @codechef in their activity stream. Only people we are following will be able to DM us which means it wouldn’t be open to everyone. Hope this helps,

    A few things are missing here ,
    1.) Which corner to which corner ? ( I guess, its a rectangular kitchen and you are referring to the opposite corners )
    2.) Define ‘move’. ( I guess, he can move only horizontally or vertically, parallel to X-Y axis in any of the 4 directions )
    3.) He should not visit the same cell in the grid again ( Right ? )

    Hi Anil,

    All the 3 assumptions that you mentioned are right.
    * The Chef needs to move to the opposite corner of the grid.
    * He can move only on the edges of each rectangular cell of the grid
    * The Chef doesn’t want to backtrack. He can visit each cell only once.

    Need clarification for Day-3 Q1:

    - What is meant by mirror image? Where is the mirror placed? top, bottom, left, right, vertically below or vertically above?
    - How are the numbers written? For example is nine written like 9 or g or q ? Same as for 1, 2, 4 etc?

    Hi Neelesh,

    By mirror image of a number below 1000 I mean that digit on the extreme left change places with the digit on the extreme right. For instance 12 & 21, 437 & 734 etc.

    Hi Anil,
    The base diameter > 50 units, the height = base diameter +- 1 and the length which is the slant height needs to be an integer.

    so the length is an integer in both cases (height = base+1 and height = base-1) or atleast one case?

    Hi Neelesh,

    I just need one set of dimensions with the base being >50 units, the height is either + or – 1 the base and the length should be an integer in either case.
