Update: Due to multiple requests the onsite contest is moved to January 10th, the online round will take place on November 21st at 7pm.
CodeCheffers,
We are really excited to announce two contests in November. In addition to our 10 day algorithm challenge (Nov 1st - Nov 11th) we are also hosting our first ever “CodeChef Campus SnackDown.”
What is the CodeChef Campus SnackDown?
We will be holding an ACM ICPC style team contest with two rounds and cash prizes of Rs. 3 lakhs! The first round will take place online on November 21st from 4pm-9pm 7pm-12am. The top teams from this round will be flown to Mumbai for a final in-person round on December 5th January 10th. The overall winners will receive prize money and an opportunity to dine with Bhavin (Directi’s CEO)
Who is eligible?
Anyone can participate but only students attending college within India are eligible to participate in the final round (and win prize money).
International participants, worry not, we will be holding a team based contest within the coming weeks in which everyone will be eligible for prizes.
What is the format of the contest?
Standard ACM-ICPC style rules, teams of up to 3, penalties for wrong submissions.
What are the prizes?
We will be giving out Rs. 3 lakhs in prize money, the top teams from each institute will also be recognized and rewarded.
Full details will be announced shortly, so mark the date on your calendar and stay tuned…
Cheers!

Are they eligible for final round ?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Really cool…

It's really cool and eagerly waiting for it!

I m excited about this contest..looking forward to it..
October 27th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
How many qualify for onsite?
This is seriously amazing news… !
October 27th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
BTW do all team-members have to be from same college?
Or teams consisting of members from different colleges will also be allowed?
October 27th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
I second Ajay, it'd be great to have a team of Students + Professionals. Great going anyhow.
October 27th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
I'm rather disappointed
A contest from 11.30 at night to 4.30 in the morning isn't exactly something I can compete in.
October 28th, 2009 at 3:15 am
@ajay this contest is for Indian students only, we are finalizing the plan for another large contest which will be open to students and professionals globally
@Pratik depends on how many registered teams we have, probably 5-10, yes all teams have to be from the same college
@stephen we know you had brought this up earlier, and we are trying very hard to make the contests at a time where anyone (regardless of timezone) can participate, but due to many scheduling conflicts this was the only time we could do it. again we are planning a larger (probably) 24 hour team based ACM ICPC style contest open to anyone (regardless of age/geography). more details on this to be announced soon
@all thank you all for your excitement and feedback, please help us pass along the word on this competition…

Any special reason for restricting it to college students?
I'm in high school.
Secondly, even if I was allowed, I would not be able to gather 2 partners from the same institution. I request you to allow teams of members from different institutions.
If not possible for this contest, possibly from the next time.
October 30th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
@Keshav: We will soon have a similar contest in which everyone is eligible for prizes. So count yourself in the next time : )

we wil be having our semester xams during 5th dec. and i think most of d participants will be having their semester xams…. so it is a request to admin to postpone the finals by atleast dec 20.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:55 am
Woow !! This is great news. But the schedule is a dampner
Is it possible to reschedule the date of the finals ? It would be really great if the finals are held after December 20. All engineering colleges in West Bengal under WBUT ( West Bengal University of Technology ) will be having their odd semester exams in the first half of December'09. Colleges in other states might also have their semester xams in December.

Are international teams of students allowed to participate in the online contest? I'm asking just about participation, without qualifying for the on-site.
