Facebook Connect Updated

Posted by Tojo on June 23rd, 2011 Filed in Announcement, Features View Comments

Hey CodeCheffers,

After getting numerous amounts of requests in the form of bugs and feedback, we have gone ahead and updated our Facebook Integration feature on CodeChef. In the new release we have:

* New Facebook Graph API
* New Recommend/Send button on the Problem Pages
* Overhauled the entire workflow of Facebook Integration.

Please note that all Facebook connected users will have to connect their CodeChef accounts with Facebook and set their auto publishing options again. We apologize for this but we could not avoid clearing all the Facebook accounts in CodeChef.

So the next time you guys login to CodeChef, be sure to use the Facebook Connect feature. If you guys do find any issues, please drop in a mail to bugs@codechef.com.

Cheers!

XSS attack! – We are back :)

Posted by Harsh on June 10th, 2011 Filed in Announcement View Comments

Hey Guys,

As some of you may have noticed, there has been an xss attack on our site since yesterday. You may find that your profile data has been changed. We are trying to restore this. To prevent further problems we are taking the site down.

We apologize to our users for taking the site down in the middle of the contest. On a brighter note, this gives us an opportunity to make ourselves stronger. :)

We will be back soon.

UPDATE: We are back. We apologize for the prolonged downtime. We have tried our best to restore your data back and ensure that this does not occur again. However, we have not been able to update a few of your profiles, whom we request to update manually.

Please send a mail to feedback@codechef.com in case you still face any issues or suspect any malicious activity.

The contest will be extended to make up for the lost time.

Keep watching this space to know what actually transpired.

Regards,
Team CodeChef

Programmer of the Month for June 2011: Tomek Czajka

Posted by Harsh on June 10th, 2011 Filed in Programmer of the Month View Comments

Welcome to the June Programmer of the Month edition!

This month we have with us Tomek Czajka who is our Programmer of the Month. Tomek has been part of CodeChef since July 2009 and has submitted over 100 problems since then. He is ranked 4th in the long contest and 24th in the short contest format. We hope this is just the start and we have lots to see from this great mind. On behalf of the CodeChef team, we wish him good luck for the future.  Now let’s see what Tomek has to tell us about himself.

Name:  Tomek Czajka
Age:  30
Company: Google
User id:  tomek

Brief introduction about yourself:

I graduated from University of Warsaw and Purdue University, now I am working for Google, currently on Google Offers. Programming competitions have always been among the most intensive and enjoyable events for me.

How/When did you start programming?

I got a SAM Coupé for my 12th birthday. I quickly learned a lot about how the computer worked and learned to program in the built-in BASIC, and then in Z80 assembly.

What do you do when you’re not programming?

I play volleyball in the evenings on Google campus.

What do you like most about CodeChef?

Interesting problems in the monthly contests. Also the wide variety of compilers available.

How many hours a day do you program?

Between 2 to 6 hours.

If you could eat dinner with any famous person (past or present), who would it be and what dish would you have?

Some ancient Mediterranean cuisine with Euclid and Archimedes.

What is the secret to being a good programmer?

Enjoy doing it. If you are bored, you stop learning and become much less productive.

What are your plans for the future?

I will have a kid or two.

Cheers!

The May CookOff has ended!

Posted by Harsh on June 1st, 2011 Filed in Contests, Winners View Comments

Hi Guys,

The May 2010 Cook-off has ended. A well balanced problem set, in which we saw some of the big names participate just a day before the ACM ICPC world finals.

This contest was made possible by our new problem setter and tester Anil Kishore and Harsha S respectively. And they did an awesome job at it. Thank you guys so much for the fantastic job in putting together this problem set!

There was an issue with judging Java submissions for one of the problems, which was reported by Mikhail during the contest, and after identifying the issue we decided to rejudge them. The rank-list changed after the contest was over, which was unfortunate. We sincerely apologize to vitar and laycurse, as they have been the most affected due to this lapse from our side.

We also had an issue with our commenting system during the contest which was caused due to a bug in our system. Apologies for the inconvenience caused. This has been fixed now and we request you to get back to the editorials and start commenting your doubts to our problem setter and tester. Your queries will be definitely answered there.

And we are also facing another issue with viewing solutions for the COOK10 problems. We are yet to figure out why this happened. We are investigating this and this may take us some time. We will keep you posted, please bear with us until then.

Finally, here are the  top 10 best performers of the May 2011 Cook-Off:

01. mikhailOK
02. vitar
03. laycurse
04. EgorK
05. gennady.korotkevich
06. allin
07. niyaznigmatul
08. Milanin
09. dzhulgakov
10. emppu

Take a look at the contest rankings here.

Contest Statistics:

Length of Contest Unique Participants Total Number of Submissions User who have solved at least one problem
