Congratulations to all the winners of this month’s challenge and thank you all for participating.

This contest started out with our April Fool’s prank that seemed to get mixed reactions from our participants. To all those whose sentiments we may have hurt we sincerely apologize. Take a look at the first comment to spot the April fool joke here.

In order to encourage learning on CodeChef, we have added some editorials of the contest problems, that have written by the problems setters themselves. The remaining editorials will be added shortly. 🙂 Make sure you check them out here.

Cheers,
Basil

  1. This was a nice contest. I really liked the problems this time. However I would like to remind that a couple of problems were on the higher end of difficulty. In order to get more participation(from quality participants), you may want to consider my suggestion(also Ajay's suggestion a couple of months back) of slightly lowering the difficulty(of the order of this month's TSP problem) and reducing the runtime of the contest(6-7 days or may be less). I would say the average difficulty of the contest problems should be of the order of a typical topcoder 1000 pt problem. Timed contests are always better for training participants, rather than untimed ones. In untimed ones, you get too much time to think and explore and I am not sure if this is a good thing(if you want the top participants in your contest to do well in other equally famous coding competitions like codejam, ACM.etc).

  3. @sppraveen: Thanks. We hope to only improve from here.@balakrishnan_v: Thanks for the feedback. Regarding the difficulty levels, we will look into the same but it is not always straightforward to come up with exact level of certain difficulty. However we will certainly consider it and discuss it with our problem setters. Regarding the duration, we are still biased towards having the same format as it has its advantages where people who do not have dedicated time can also come and participant at their leisure. We have received lot of feedback on retaining this format as well. We shall certainly be monitoring all the feedback on the same.

  5. No, If you are going to maintain the same contest-duration, this(or probably slightly lower) is the right amount of difficulty. Difficulty should be reduced only of you want to reduce the contest duration. Reducing contest duration is what I am proposing.

  7. I have to spend more than twelve hours at, about or commuting to and from college. If the duration is reduced I won't get a chance to participate to my satisfaction in these contests … While your proposal has it's merits it would inconvenience some of us here. A possible solution would be to run two contests each month – the present one and a shorter one thereafter.
