Gennady clinches it again! Hard luck Tanaeem.

1 min read

Hi Guys,

gennady.korotkevich clinches it once again with his last minute submission to beat tanaeem and increase the gap at the top of our short contest ratings!

The June 2011 Cook-off has ended. A well balanced problem (well slightly mathematical :P) set, we did not see any participant solve all 5 problems though.

This contest was made possible by our problem setter and tester Anton Lunyov and Rajiv Kumar respectively. And they did an awesome job. Thank you so much for the fantastic job in putting together this problem set!

Here are the  top 10 best performers of the June 2011 Cook-Off:

  1. I felt some disbalance in the thinking+implementation combination for 2 and 1/2 hr contest.
At least 4-8 people should be able to solve all 5 questions in given time limit.

  2. Also I feel that in codechef contests problems sometimes get somewhat problem setter centric(am not talking specifically to any setter , obviously they always do a great job for us) . In contests such as these should be nice and balanced blend of various types of ideas.

  3. There is some problem in short contest ranking…..i was ranked on pos 197 an now 621… whereas one of my friend which was on rank 300 previously is now ranked better than me…why so????????????????????????

  4. Exactly. I felt the same.. the problems are more mathy than usual and the percentage of accepted solutions clearly shows that. Please try to give little more easy set for cook-offs. I liked the last cook-off (May 2011), though its a relatively much easier set.. it had good mix of problems and a killer hard for those finished 4 problems fast.

I know its tough to guess the exact level of a problem before contest, but at least for this June cook-off don’t use this as an excuse… setter/tester should also keep majority of coders in mind and not just worry more about those elite coders.

  5. We agree that the problem set was a bit difficult this time and did involve some deep understanding of mathematical concepts. But then what is the fun in homogeneity? Don’t we want to challenge ourselves on every aspect of the programming rather than miss out on a possibly very important subject? Let there be some diversity, which brings in more fun.

And lets try and be nice to our problem setters. They work really hard to provide us with some absolutely amazing original problems and then try and solve all your doubts. Each problem setter has his/her areas of strength and liking. And that is the reason we have so many different variety of contests. They too take your feedback well. And they also share the same goal as everyone of us. To have a really exciting contest for everyone.

We are sure, we will bring in many more, very exciting contests in the days to come and hope that you will keep pouring in your feedback. Let us take a moment to thank our problem setter for once and request him to bring in another exciting contest to us very soon. 🙂

    1. I think you are right , at least we do still get a lot to ponder about after the contest and I also realize that the problems are very unique. Keep going .
I was not blaming Anton or any specfic setter , infact I love Anton problems and always use his codes as reference…..
