Since the beginning of time, we have aimed to provide various learning opportunities for the community. For the last 11 years, we have done this through our monthly contests, practise section, and discussion forums. However, we always felt the need for visual content as we thought that it would be a better method of teaching the students who are used to traditional blackboard learning. Unfortunately, this wish and target never came to fruition until now.
A Ray of Hope
Recently our custodianship shifted from Directi to Unacademy. This ended up opening a whole new avenue of opportunities for us. Unacademy’s vision is to partner with the brightest minds and have courses on every possible topic in multiple languages so the whole world can benefit from these courses. With millions of subscribers across their various YouTube channels, the importance and reach of visual learning became even more evident to us. In line with this Gaurav Munjal Co-founder and CEO of Unacademy spoke to us about having a repository of videos, full of programming content that was accessible to all. We quickly set about creating a project where we could provide video-based content to our community. However, we were stuck on the issue of finding the best educators. We needed people with a trove of knowledge, a style of teaching that gets through to everyone, and the passion to do something for the community.
The Eureka moment
Eventually, we came up with the idea of hosting a contest in search of educators. And this was how “CodeChef Creator Hunt” came to life. Although different from our usual contests, the rules were pretty simple. Each participant had to create and submit a video explaining the solution to a problem listed on CodeChef. And lo behold, the response was overwhelming, and the videos started pouring in like crazy. We shortlisted the top fifty videos and got some of the best programmers from across the globe who would be a perfect fit as educators for us.
Exciting News
With this contest, we got exactly what we needed. When we approached the creators of these videos with our idea they were completely on board with it. The five educators on our team right now are Rithvik Chatterjee, Divesh Thakker, Prachi Agarwal, Chirayu Jain, and Pradyuman Aggarwal. We are working non-stop with them to come up with creative educational content. Check out a little sneak peek here:
We plan to have each of these educators make videos where they solve a popular CodeChef problem, explaining the solution in a detailed way that will help the community learn. With our target locked and our first batch of educators beside us, we are jubilant to announce the official launch of our new YouTube channel “Learn Competitive Programming With CodeChef”. At the moment, our first batch of creators is busy at work cooking up fantastic content for you.
We congratulate and thank our educators who have worked tirelessly to create all of these videos and continue to do so in order to ensure a consistent flow of videos. We will be putting out new videos every week, so stay tuned for the schedule, it will arrive soon.
The road ahead
We are very excited about this new venture of ours and look forward to having you onboard with us as we go on this exhilarating journey of visual learning. So remember to subscribe to the channel, because this is something you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
